Even the best laid plans are susceptible to failure, and this is especially true in the film industry! A lot of different pieces have to come together perfectly in order for a movie to be released, and this means that actors and actresses need to stay alive until filming has been completed. Or do they? This might have been true years ago, but today’s technology means that it’s possible for movie makers to bring characters to life even if the actors that played them pass away before they finish filming every scene. As they say, the show must go on!
Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. II
In 2015, Philip Seymour Hoffman tragically died of a drug overdose before he finished filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.The actor played the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, and he was meant to appear in several key scenes that hadn’t yet been filmed when he passed away. However, Lionsgate made the decision to digitally recreate the character so that the movie could be released as planned. Apparently it was quite a difficult choice, because even though the studio knew they would be able to recreate Hoffman’s appearance, they weren’t sure they could do justice to his acting ability!
